The main homepage graphic or sIFR can be compared to the front page graphic for the lead story in a newspaper. It's created the night before the paper is published and is set to go live at midnight. Main sIFR's often match the lead story in the Daily Mirror the following day.

Linking to the lead story on the site, it is updated regularly as major news breaks. The black strap at the bottom of the graphic is left blank for journalists publishing the article to write a subheading.
